Jon Stewart speaks the American Way

On this one day regular people wanted to show that media may be broken, but America isn't. The American people came calling today, and their message was loud and clear. They not only want their country back, but they want their sanity back as well. What the media could not figure out was that Jon Stewart had a message that was bigger than politics. His message was that America is fine. It is our media and hyper partisanship that is broken, and Stewart advocated for everyone to work together to solve our problems. The media won't like it, but this rally was about how great America can be, and how much of a problem they have become.

Article: VLC for iPad/iPhone to be removed from the App Store?

VLC for iPad/iPhone to be removed from the App Store? - Crunchgear
VLC for iPad/iPhone to be removed from the App Store?
by Simon Chester on October 31, 2010

It was with much celebration that every geek's favourite video player — VLC — made its way onto both the iPad and the iPhone, so it is with a heavy heart that I write this post.

Over the weekend, iLounge received word that RĂ©mi Denis-Courmont, one of the primary developers of the VLC Media Player, sent a copyright infringement notice to Apple.

"Whaaaa!?" I hear you cry, "but that doesn't make sense!" Well, the reasoning behind it is that it's violating the GNU General Public License (GPL) that VLC is distributed under.

New cameras for IPAD

OmniVision (OVTI) will supply CMOS image sensors for a second-generation
Apple (AAPL) iPad that will launch in the calendar first quarter of 2011, according to a brief research note yesterday from investment firm Detweiler Fenton.

The research firm contends the new iPad will ship with two cameras, a 5 MP camera and a VGA camera, and likely will support Apple's FaceTime video chat software.  Detweiler says their early read is that Apple will build 2.5 million units of the next iPad in calendar Q1, providing an incremental 5 million units of demand from Apple for OVTI, which also supplies sensors for the iPhone. He says that if you assume 23 million iPhones will be built in Q1 2011 - which includes more than 6 million for Verizon Wireless - Apple will account for nearly a third of OVTI's chip demand, and most of its shipments of 5 MP sensors.

Sometimes I find myself wondering, is it not funny how many conversations around are still only gossip? And the other conversations are the answers to solve them.

Our universe has existed for nearly 14 billion years, and as far as most people are concerned, the universe should continue to exist for billions of years more.

But according to a new paper, there's one theory for the origins of the universe that predicts time itself will end in just five billion years—coincidentally, right around the time our sun is slated to die.

Feds plan to turn central california into agricultural tourism tram

Calif's high speed rail project gets $900M from federal government

Oct. 25, 2010 | Kitty Felde | KPCC

 Download

California's high-speed rail project just got a jolt of federal investment money.

California will get more than $900 million to engineer and build a high speed rail system. Those trains would move passengers between San Diego and Sacramento or San Francisco at 200 miles an hour.

Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein says the federal Department of Transportation awarded the money to California because its high speed rail project is ready to go. Earlier this year, California got more than $2 billion in federal stimulus money for high speed rail. Two years ago, California voters got the project on track by approving $10 billion in bonds.

The latest grant also pays for other rail projects, including engineering and permits to double-track Amtrak's Surfliner route between San Luis Obispo and San Diego, and "positive train control" — technology that automatically stops a train if an engineer misses a red light.

Watch full length PBS documentaries on your iPad

I love documentary films, PBS, and my iPad. Small surprise that I love the new, free PBS iPad appwhich was released October 25th. Among many other things, users can now watch full length documentaries via the app like the five part "We Shall Remain" series.

It's a great day to be a learner.

Article: Third of iPad owners not downloading apps

Third of iPad owners not downloading apps - Digg

A large group of iPad owners, 32 percent, may not be downloading any apps from the App Store, a Nielsen study suggests. The figure comes from an August poll of 5,000 wireless device owners. Within the iPad contingent, only 63 percent had paid for at least one app. A sliver of people - 5 percent -- were downloading only free apps. As a rule, native iPad apps tend to be more expensive than ones compatible with the iPhone or iPod touch.

62 percent of paid app downloaders reported buying games. 54 percent bought books, whereas 50 percent bought music content. Productivity, sports and travel-planning apps proved the least popular categories, according to Nielsen, with travel apps in particular being downloaded by just 24 percent in the paid group.

Other data points show that iPad owners spend longer amounts of time with content than iPhone users. When compared against the rest of the survey group, they are also thought to be more susceptible to making a purchase after viewing an ad, whether at a store, over the phone, via a computer or directly from a mobile device.

Article: Infographic: Which Asteroids Are Swinging Closest to Earth? | Popular Science

Near Earth Objects Visualized via Power of Visualization

Perhaps the most unsettling thing about a planet-killing asteroid is that we might never see it coming. But this infographic by Mechanicsville, Md.-based designer Zachary Vabolis helpfully visualizes which candidate near-earth objects will be swinging through Earth's neighborhood and when they'll be closest.

The data comes from public NASA records and tracks 17 of the closest astronomical menaces to Earth that are greater than 3,280 feet across – that is, big enough to do some catastrophic damage. The closest rock to come screaming past Earth – 1999 AN10 – is more than 3,600 feet across but won't buzz the blue marble until 2027. The largest object on the chart, known as 433 Eros, will come around much sooner, in January of 2012.

That's right, 2012. Remind yourself that the end is near with a hi-res version here.

How to create an iTunes App Store account without Credit Card - Technospot.net

How to create an iTunes App Store account without Credit Card

I got an Apple iPad today and realized that I need to create account which should have a payment option set like Credit Card and PayPal with it so you can buy the paid apps without any extra step. Guess what I was wrong. You can create an Apple iTunes account without using your credit card or paypal option by choosing an option which is NONE at the end of the list which I am sure many you had missed while creating it.

Tip before you create an  iTunes or Apple Store account : Make sure you have the right country selected. You can change it while creating it also but then all the steps has to be repeated which is very painful.

So here are the steps :

  • Click on any free app like Twitter App for iPad and click on the Free Icon.
  • This will pop up a window which will ask you to create an account or login to an existing one. Click on Create New Account.
  • Fill in the information like username, password etc and then move on to next screen which will ask you for payment options.
  • Right here on this screen you will get lot of options like paying via Visa, Paypal etc, Look beyond and there is an option which says NONE.

Payment Method iTunes Account

  • Choose this one. Fill in your address etc and verify your email id. You are done creating an iTunes account / Apple account without giving any information of your credit card.
