Apple has begun selling refurbished iPads, as low as $449. All models appear to get a $50 discount from the price of a brand-new iPad. This is the first time Apple has put refurbished iPads up for sale.
$50 isn't that big a break, but it is something, and remember: sometimes a refurbished model was simply returned, barely used, or not used at all. Being returned, no matter how pristine the condition, Apple will have to sell them as refurbished.
Given the $50 discount, the refurbished versions are priced as follows: 16GB for $449, 32GB for $549, and 64GB for $649. The 3G-capable models would see the same sort of $50 off pricing, if there were any available, but for now they show as "out of stock." If they were available, they would be $579, %679 and $779 for the three different sizes.
Apple says quantities are limited, and these sorts of things sell out quickly (witness what happens when refurbished iPhones go up for sale). The refurbs come with Apple's one-year limited warranty, and the AppleCare Protection Plan is also available for purchase, if you need reassurance that the refurb will work as well as a new model.
