Article: Son of iPad to arrive April 2, April 9

Son of iPad to arrive April 2, April 9 - MAC.BLORGE

Apple's next generation tablet is expected to arrive one year almost to the day or a few more, depending on which ends up being right, in buyer hands. Also, friends overseas — just like last year — won't be getting the new iteration until months later, though the jury's still out on whether Apple will stagger the release of wi-fi and 3G versions.

Germany's MacNotes has been told by "reliable sources" that the iPad will ship on either April 2 or April 9, which is a year after the first version of the groundbreaking device shipping in 2010.

They go on to say that it will have a retina display and two cameras. Although it's likely that iPad will gain resolution, true Retina pixel counts — a doubling of the current 1028 x 768 — won't happen because it's cost prohibitive and just so much overkill vis-a-vis what users can perceive.

And, the cameras? Well, the images and videos of iPad 2 mockups and cases coming out of China clearly show openings for them, and similar leaks have proven prescient in the past.

Same again?

MacNotes goes on to lay out a timeline for the iPad 2. For example, they say that WalMart, Best Buy et might not be allowed to sell the new version until October — just like last year.

They also add that the international iPad rollout won't begin in earnest until July, though Germany, France, Britain and Japan will get theirs once the initial US is sated — just like last year.

The report doesn't mention whether Apple will stagger the rollout of the wi-fi only and 3G models as also happened last year.

In other words, MacNotes' source believes that the iPad 2 rollout will, give or take a little, mirror that of the first Apple tablet. Given what we've seen over the years with the successive iPhone rollouts, this information (or assumptions) could yet prove accurate.

That said, I rather doubt there's more here than just that…
